Questions

How does it know my child is practicing?

It listens through the microphone and uses a small sound-recognition model that runs entirely on the phone or tablet. The timer only counts music – talking and quiet time don’t count. Nothing is recorded or sent anywhere.

What does it cost?

During the beta, the family app is free and Allegrow Studio is free for up to 3 students. Beta partners get unlimited students free. We’ll give plenty of notice before anything changes, and Beta partners will be looked after.

Which devices does it work on?

Any recent phone, tablet or computer with a modern browser (Safari, Chrome, Edge or Firefox). It can be added to the home screen and opened like an app.

Which instruments?

Any instrument – pick from the 12 most common or type your own – for timing and focus. Tuning scores are for instruments where the player shapes every note: violin, viola, cello, voice, flute, clarinet, saxophone and trumpet. The rhythm score works with the metronome for everyone. Teachers choose whether each score appears as a number, as a trend only, or not at all – for the whole studio or one student – and every score comes with a plain explanation of how it’s measured.

Is my child’s information safe?

We only ask for a first name or nickname. Practice stays on your device unless you turn on sync between your own devices or connect your child to their teacher, which you choose to do. See the privacy policy.
