Short, step-by-step answers for the first week with Allegrow: the first practice, the microphone, a child’s own tablet, teachers, goals and the theory games.
Open allegrowmusic.com/app on the phone, tablet or computer that will sit near the instrument.
Tap your child’s name on the “Who’s practicing?” screen.
Press Start, then play. Anything counts – a warm-up, a scale, a piece. The timer runs only while it hears music, so talking and breaks don’t add up.
Press Done when they’re finished. The minutes are saved, and the day counts toward their streak.
Five minutes is plenty for a first practice. Let your child press Start themselves – kids who run the timer feel like the practice is theirs. Allegrow listens the way a tuner does: sound is analyzed on the device and nothing is recorded.
If the timer isn’t counting
Allegrow needs the microphone to tell playing from talking. The first time you press Start, your browser asks for it – choose Allow.
If you chose “Don’t allow” by mistake
iPhone or iPad (Safari): tap aA (or the page icon) next to the web address, then Website Settings → Microphone → Allow. Then reload the page.
Android (Chrome): tap the icon to the left of the web address, then Permissions → Microphone → Allow.
Computer (Chrome or Edge): click the icon to the left of the web address and switch Microphone on. In Safari on a Mac: Safari → Settings for allegrowmusic.com → Microphone → Allow.
Check that it hears the instrument
Open Parents → Settings → Microphone and tap Test microphone. If a quiet instrument isn’t picked up, raise the Sensitivity there.
Rather not use the microphone?
In Parents → Settings → Players, open the player’s practice settings and set What counts to a plain timer. Every minute it runs then counts.
A child’s own phone or tablet
If your child practices on a different device from yours, add it to your family so their practice shows up for you:
On your device, open Parents → Settings → Family & devices and tap Add a practice device, then Get a code. (You’ll need to be signed in as the parent.)
On their device, open allegrowmusic.com/app and tap Have a code from a parent? Scan or type it.
Scan the code or type it in. Their device now practices as part of your family, and you see everything on yours.
With a teacher, or without one
If your teacher uses Allegrow, they’ll send you an invite link or a code. Open the link on the device where Allegrow is set up (or choose “Yes – I have a link or code” when you add your child). Their assignments, notes and lesson times then appear on the practice screen.
If your teacher doesn’t use Allegrow – or you don’t have one – everything still works. Practice whatever you’re working on: a piece, a scale, a song your child likes. You can connect a teacher any time later.
You choose what a teacher can see. In Parents → Settings → Players, each teacher has a Practice history … can see setting, and Disconnect removes them.
Setting a practice goal
A small goal that’s easy to beat works better than a big one. Ten minutes on four or five days a week is a great start.
From the practice screen: under the day’s goal, tap Edit week and set the minutes for each day (a dash is a rest day).
From the Parents area:Parents → Settings → Players → Weekly plan.
If a teacher set the plan, you’ll see “set by” their name. Choose Use our own to change it – your teacher will see that you did.
Streaks, badges and stars
Every day your child practices adds to their streak, shown with a flame on the “Who’s practicing?” screen. Badges are earned along the way – for consistency, for meeting goals, for steady rhythm and more. If you have a teacher on Allegrow, they can send a star with a note, and it pops up the next time your child opens the app.
Prefer something quieter for an older player? Calm look in their practice settings turns off confetti, badges and flames and shows just the minutes.
Music theory games
On the practice screen, tap Music theory for note-reading flash cards, rhythm and ear games. A round takes about three minutes and works anywhere – no instrument needed – so it’s a good start on a busy day or in the car. Games follow your child’s instrument and get harder as they improve.
Practiced without the app?
At the bottom of the practice screen, tap Log it next to “Practiced without the app?” and enter the minutes. Practice logged by hand still counts toward the day and the streak.
Put Allegrow on the home screen
iPhone or iPad: in Safari, tap Share (the square with an arrow), then Add to Home Screen and Add. Open Allegrow from the new icon and connect it once there – sign in as the parent, or add it as a practice device with a code. (On iPhone and iPad the icon keeps its own connection, separate from Safari.)
Android: tap ⋮ in Chrome, then Add to Home screen (or Install app).
Computer: in Chrome or Edge, click the install icon at the right end of the address bar.
